My family and I moved from Long Island, New York to Missouri City, Texas in 2005. We then fell in love with our current home in Colony Lakes and the nearby neighborhoods. As months went by, I did however start to notice some of the resources our neighborhood was lacking and took an interest in getting involved with the HOA. When I became President of Colony Lakes Homeowners Association, our HOA Board had some challenges to balance the budget and improve services. Within six months our Board and committee members were able to get a handle on the budget and make several improvements to our neighborhood. As we continue to move forward with further enhancement for Colony Lakes, this will result in an improved marketability, a higher quality of life and safer neighborhood for all of us.
Serving on the HOA Board has given me the opportunity to learn in detail how an association is maintained. It has also provided me with opportunities to familiarize myself with Missouri City as I communicated and worked with several city council and city staff on behalf of Colony Lakes. I have been serving on the Missouri City Parks Board for the last two years which has helped me to learn how parks, pedestrian mobility and infrastructure programs impact neighborhoods and businesses. I believe that Missouri City is a great city with rich cultural diversity and it can be one of the best in the nation!
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that I am seeking the Missouri City, District C - Council member position. The general election will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 and the early voting will be held Monday, April 27, 2009 through Tuesday, May 05, 2009.
My vision for Missouri City is for the residents and businesses to feel more pride for the city as they invest their time and resources. I’ll bring the same energy and dedication I put into Colony Lakes to improve communication between the citizens and the city. I also think its essential to get more residents and businesses invested in the city. Government can enhance or limit the investments for economic development, infrastructure, and safety enforcements. This is where I think I can be an asset - to help them prioritize the needs for our residents while providing appropriate enhancements.
Each of us, in our own lives, will have to accept responsibility for strengthening our communities, and sharing some measure of sacrifice. Our 'District C' has grown to almost 10,000 residents in the Missouri City area. In 2007, only about 1,000 of these residents came out to the local Missouri City election to cast their vote. I'm hoping that this year, there will be a dramatic change in the number of voters. Voting is part of our civic responsibility and often the best way to contribute to the city, state and nation. As we pay property, school, MUD, and federal taxes, we have a right to voice our concerns and to know how these resources are being spent.
I have been walking the different neighborhoods in 'District C' for the last two weeks to campaign for the election. During this time, several residents have voiced the concerns in regards to the city and 'District C.' Some of these include a recycling program, sidewalk repairs, re-marking crosswalks, lower taxes, neighborhood safety, Highway 6 traffic flow, infrastructure to Cartwright and Texas Parkway corridor, and the possibility of a "Town Center" concept. The most common concern was regarding the lack of communication and representation by the current 'District C' council representative.
For any kind of election, candidates always make promises. Too often, after the election, all of those promises fade away and personal interests move in. The people are turned away and disappointed once again. I believe that along with my family, friends, and anyone who has served on the HOA board or committees with me will agree that I am different from others. I believe that my fellow neighbors will put their trust in me to put the citizens first. The only promise I will make is that I will do everything I can to be an honest representation for you. For this reason, I humbly request all of your support to help me have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Missouri City to keep it as a safe, beautiful and affordable city to live in.
Let us be the generation that reshapes our city to a high standard for our children and give them the resources they need to succeed. Most of all, let us be the generation that never forgets our past and works for a future that we can all be proud of. Finally, let me honor those of you that have volunteered in the past, present and future to make our community a better place to live and raise our families. I believe that I can count on your friendship and support for me during this election on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
