Robin J. Elackatt, the current Missouri City Vice-Chair for the Parks and Recreation Board and President of the Colony Lakes Homeowners Association has announced his decision to seek election as City Councilman (District C) of Missouri City in the May 9, 2009, election.
"I am in a position, both professionally and personally, to seek public office," Elackatt said. "I strongly believe my experience and record qualify me to serve in this office at this unique time in our city’s history."
Elackatt has served in many different public service roles which were voluntary, appointed and elected. He was first appointed to the City’s Parks and Recreation Board in July 2007 and currently serves as Vice Chair. The Missouri City Parks and Recreation Department maintains and operates thirty-five parks including both developed and undeveloped tracts totaling 919.73 acres of land.
During his tenure as President of the Colony Lakes Homeowners Association Board, Robin and his board were able to balance the budget for the first time in the subdivision's history. They hired a new management company, switched landscape companies, created a finance committee, and funded several improvements to the community park and playground equipment. After establishing a new website and newsletter in an effort to improve communication within the community, the board added seats for two additional board members and added a semi-annual meeting.
Elackatt plans to encourage greater participation of the City’s Homeowners Associations within the city. He believes that the lack of resident involvement in the past may have been fueled by lack of communication from current representation in District C. Elackatt said, "In an effort to communicate with residents of District C, I am planning to hold regular Town Hall Meetings."
"Missouri City has a rich history and a solid foundation," Elackatt said. "Our future will have many challenges, but by working together, it can be very exciting. To meet these challenges, my vision is to maintain and improve a high level of city services to our neighborhoods, continue strong economic development and sustainability for both the corporate and retail segments. I support a paced replacement of our aging infrastructure, augmenting citizen mobility, and a no-compromise attitude for public safety. Missouri City is fortunate to have outstanding Police and Fire Departments. I will support measures that ensure these courageous men and women have the tools they need to get the job done." It is time for Missouri City to move forward!
Elackatt is a proud member of our Missouri City and has been a resident for almost four years. He also serves as the member of Fort Bend County-Chamber of Commerce, Houston Community College System-Advisory Board for the Diagnostic Imaging program as well. Elackatt is currently working as a Healthcare Administrator. He and his wife Tina, a Physician's Assistant, have been married for nine years and they have two young daughters. He currently resides in the Colony Lakes subdivision.
